HOW OFTEN SHOULD A STUDENT USE THE LTK SOFTWARE?
Answer
Students gain maximum benefit if the LTK® software is used 3-4 times per week in periods of 30-45 minutes. The
first 22 lessons are 60-90 minutes in length. Lessons 23 and beyond last for 30-45 minutes each. Students using
the program with this level of focus will experience improved reading skills within 2 weeks!
A student who begins
with lesson 1 and completes all 87 lessons will require 120-150 hours to complete the entire program and will be
reading at a grade level of 8.5.

WHAT IS CONTAINED ON THE LTK DEMONSTRATION CD-ROMS?
Answer
The LTK Demonstration CD-ROMs contain limited-function versions of the software. You can examine five
complete lessons with the demonstration disc. Reports from actual students are available to examine results from
the powerful
LTK Student Reporting System.

Question
What else will I see on the LTK Demonstration CD-ROM?
Answer
You will be able to access specific LTK lesson activities within the program's 87 lessons. This will provide you with
an idea of the range of LTK. Please examine the
Index of LTK Screens for features and controls you will
encounter on the demonstration CD-ROM.

STUDENTS
Question
Is LTK appropriate for students with learning disabilities?
Answer
LTK was designed for this type of student. Those with learning disabilities, specifically dyslexia, require a very
controlled approach to reading instruction. The
Orton-Gillingham method is the most-researched and most-
proven technique ever devised to address the needs of this type of student. That's what's inside LTK.

Questions
Do students have to begin at lesson 1?
Is there a placement test?
Answer
There is a Placement Test within the program that can be used to determine the student's current reading level.
After completing the
LTK Placement Test, the student is automatically placed at the appropriate beginning lesson
number. For the LTK At Home and LTK For Kids programs, you can access this program from the What Do You
Want To Do program. If using LTK For Schools, this function is accessible from the Lesson Plan tab of the
Instructor Menu, and can be set for all newly-enrolled students to automatically take the LTK Placement Test.
There is also a Set Beginning Lesson program that provides the ability to start at any of the 87 LTK lessons.

Question
How old should the typical student be?
Answer
All versions of the Language Tune-Up Kit will successfully teach students who are age 6 through adult. We do not
recommend use of LTK by students who are age 5 or younger unless an adult can work with the student to
provide assistance when needed. LTK does not contain any "cartoonish" characters that will sidetrack the
student. Some younger children may seem to need his type of "edu-tainment" to stay focused on computer
software. We do not recommend this approach, as it tends to distract the student from the goal of the exercises
instead of helping them to learn.

LTK VERSIONS
Question
What are the differences among the different versions of LTK?
Answer
LTK At Home and LTK For Kids each support two students at a time, and can be reused.

LTK For Kids includes 41 lessons and takes your students to approximately a 3rd grade reading level.
LTK For
Kids contains the first 41 lessons of the LTK At Home program.
LTK At Home has 87 lessons and takes your
students to a reading level of grade 8.5.

All other LTK For School versions contain the same instructional content (87 lessons), and take the student to a
reading level of grade 8.5.

LTK For Schools is available in two versions and includes the comprehensive
LTK For Schools Management
System.

LTK For Schools Single Station Version. This version supports an unlimited number of students and resides on a
single Windows PC. Students must use the same LTK Student PC each time they use the LTK program. This is
because the LTK Student History files are located on that PC. It requires that each LTK Student PC have it's own
copy of the LTK For Schools Single Station Version CD-ROM.

LTK For Schools Enterprise Network Version. This version supports an unlimited number of students. The
advantage is that students can use any Student PC on the network to use the LTK software. This reduces
scheduling problems when multiple students are using the software simultaneously. Administrators and teachers
can also use any PC to access the LTK Management system. This version comes with 100 Student IDs. Additional
Student IDs can be ordered separately in multiples of 100.

SITE LICENSES
Question
What are the Site License requirements for LTK?
Answer
There are no site license requirements for our software. The concept of site licensing tends to limit the flexibility of
schools in using the software and increases the cost for the school and vendor to manage the licensing. Our
approach is to make life as simple as possible for all parties involved while providing a high quality product for our
customers.

TEACHER TRAINING
Question
What type of teacher training is required to use the LTK For Schools versions?
Answer
No teacher training is required to use any version of the LTK software. The LTK For Schools Teacher's
Reference Guide covers all of the programs functions in detail. It is organized according to what you are
interested in and does not assume any prior knowledge about the program. Tutorials are available for students
and teachers to become familiar with operation of the student lesson controls and program features. The LTK For
Schools Management system is created with a dynamic help function. As you move the mouse over portions of
the Administrator and Instructor screens, a Help panel displays a description of the item you are interested in.
