Instructional Content - LTK For Kids
LTK For Kids begins instruction by teaching the sounds made by letters, then 3-letter words.
The multi-sensory techniques employed by the program include visual, auditory and tactile-kinesthetic.
The student will receive up to ten repetitions of each sound, letter or word. If 80 percent mastery is achieved, the
lesson continues with the next activity.
At the end of each of the LTK lessons, there is a quiz that appears to the student as a game.
There are over 800 lesson instructions and over 150 help instructions recorded for the student.
All primary phonetic letter combinations have an accompanying graphic for reinforcement.
All new words are presented in strict sequence that relies on letters and letter-sound combinations previously
mastered by the student.
Lesson Contents:
Over 2700 words are available within LTK For Kids. All of them are recorded in human voice.
All sentences and stories contain only words previously taught to the student.
There are over 1800 unique sentences and 108 stories for practice and word recognition.
LTK For Kids includes a Placement Test to automatically determine the appropriate beginning lesson number for each
student.
LTK For Kids provides an optional Auditory Assessment test to determine whether or not the student is capable of
understanding the differences in letter and word sounds. If the student is unsuccessful in this test, he or she will be
asked to seek out help to assist with the lessons.
A series of familiarization exercises teach the student how to use the mouse, keyboard, and the LTK For Kids screen
control objects required to use the program successfully.

- Lessons 1-10 review the alphabet, teach 3-sound, 3-letter words, and basic word building rules.
- Lessons 11-22 teach initial and final blends. Within Lessons 1-22 there are approximately 800 words.
- Lessons 23-41 teach basic silent-"e" rules, digraphs, long vowel sounds and long vowel teams: 890 words.
- Interspersed are review lessons.
